Trees

The possibilities are endless... Help!

RADA Playwriting Showcase 2026

Directed by Daniel Goldman

Trees follows two couples agonising over whether to become parents, and the potential children who haunt their decisions. Kathryn, Ravi, Stewart and Harry have countless reasons to have a child, and countless reasons not to: the climate, money, freedom, self-worth, hope, selfishness… the list is endless.

As the characters wrestle with what they owe themselves, each other and people who don’t yet exist, potential children begin stepping out of possibility and onto the stage, carrying desires, grievances and questions of their own. At the moment of indecision, every possible future stands at the precipice of reality… palpable, but not quite real. As choices are made, the children take further strides into reality, until they become more real than the adults who once imagined them.

Funny, strange and poignant, Trees interrogates what our choices cost ourselves and each other, and what happens to the futures we leave behind.

For Julia - the story of a woman in Auschwitz reverberates through three generations of women confronting medicine, motherhood and bodily autonomy, raising the question: who gets to choose for whom?

The Trackers (after Sophocles) - three lost boys follow the lead of an influencer in hunting down a dissident musician, only to discover some surprises along the way...

The First Supper - a family comes together for the first time after a monumental event has shaken them all to their core. An exploration of the personal in the political, and the political in the personal.

Kings - a queer memory play invoking biblical scripture and exploring the secret wounds which hide behind the epic words of gods and kings.
